Mental Health Services in Residential Aged Care
Client Need:
People living in a Commonwealth funded Residential Aged Care Facility who are struggling with their current situation or at risk of developing or living with a mental illness (excluding dementia).
Ages – all ages
Service Details:
Services provided to people living in a Commonwealth funded Residential Aged Care Facility who are diagnosed with a mild to moderate mental illness or residents who are assessed as being at risk of mental illness. This includes people who are assessed as at risk of developing a diagnosable mental illness over the following 12 months if they do not receive appropriate and timely services.
Not eligible for assistance under Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service (DBMAS) or other Dementia Specific services.
Up to 6 sessions of evidenced based psychological therapy. Generally delivered Face to Face although can utilise Tele-Health if appropriate.
Provision of evidence-based time-limited psychosocial therapies which can be adjusted to be responsive to the needs of older people.
How to access:
Following referral is accepted under this program:- Nurse in consultation with the resident’s GP, psychiatrist or psychologist and or ACAT team.
No Mental Health Treatment Plan required.
