Primary Care CVD Virtual Roadshow - Identify, assess and manage CVD risk in the Western Queensland Region

Following the success of the 2025 relaunch of the national cardiovascular disease (CVD) virtual roadshows delivered to general practice and primary care across Australia, we are excited to announce our next roadshow designed specifically for primary care health professionals in the Western Queensland region, delivered in collaboration with Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN).

These events are a series of CVD virtual roadshows focused on practical, evidence-based strategies to support primary care with the identification, assessment and management of CVD risk and management of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).

This 90-minute session will feature live presentations and Q&A with local clinical experts Cardiologist Dr Raibhan Yadav, RHD advisor Sara Noonan with the team from the QLD RHD program. The panel will focus on the real-world application of the 2023 Australian Guideline for assessing and managing cardiovascular disease risk and Aus CVD Risk calculator, and the assessment and management of RHD.

Speakers: A/Prof Raibhan Yadav and Sara Noonan

  • A/Prof Yadav consults in all aspects of Cardiology and is Director of Cardiology and Senior Staff Specialist at the Townsville Hospital, (TTH). He has vast local experience having worked in Townsville since 2001, establishing services in Charters Towers, Ingham, Ayr, and Palm Island. Dr Yadav has also implemented planning for remote communities in North and West Queensland including Doomadgee and Mornington Island.
  • Sara Noonan has a strong nursing, project management backgrounds. She has provided direct support to RHD control in Australia and several Pacific Islands countries and led several research projects including national surveillance of Acute Rheumatic Fever.


Learning outcomes

  • Identify and assess risk factors of the latest clinical risk assessment (CVD and RHD recommendations incorporating new evidence on risk factors imaging and biomarkers
  • Navigate local referral pathways for CVD risk management and review
  • Describe strategies for the management of high blood pressure and cholesterol nutrition and other lifestyle support strategies
  • Summarise application of Heart Health checks. Participants will be encouraged to systematically embed Heart Health checks as part of routine patient care
