About Us

Western Queensland PHN is one of seven Primary Health Networks (PHNs) across Queensland, and 31 nationally funded by the Australian Government.

Western Queensland is an expansive rural and remote area of 965,374.8 square kilometres with a sparse population of 63,719. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 20% of the population, compared to the national average of 5%. Some areas far exceed that, with the Lower Gulfs’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population at 67%.

Covering more than half of Queensland, the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN) is one of the most unique PHNs in Australia. We have the smallest population overall, with only one person per 13 square kilometres. Our PHN covers some of the most remote country in Australia.

We have set an ambitious strategic direction underpinned by Healthy Outback Communities (HOC) – a new approach to health and wellbeing for Western Queensland’s channel country region – currently being rolled out in remote Shires including Barcoo and Windorah.

The Opportunity

WQPHN is seeking applications from suitably qualified applicants to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Board.  The current incumbent is retiring by rotation and is eligible to re-apply.

Applications will be considered and reviewed by the Nominations Committee who will make a recommendation for appointment to the Board at its meeting on 26 November 2025

In assessing applications, the Nominations Committee will apply the Board Composition Matrix to assist with the process of assessing EOI applications to complement continuing directors, prior to making a recommendation to the Board.

Short listed applicants may be required to attend an interview with the Nominations Committee.
