Expressions of Interest Open: Ageing in the Outback™ Advisory Group

Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN) is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to join the newly established Ageing in the Outback™ Advisory Group, a key initiative supporting the delivery of the Ageing in the Outback™ Strategy 2024–2026.

The Advisory Group will play a vital role in ensuring older people, carers and communities across Western Queensland have a strong and direct voice in shaping aged care planning, service delivery and system improvements.

About the Ageing in the Outback Advisory Group

The Ageing in the Outback Advisory Group is being established to provide lived-experience insights and community perspectives to guide the implementation of the Ageing in the Outback Strategy. The group will work closely with WQPHN to identify priorities, highlight challenges and support improvements in aged care access, navigation and equity across rural, remote and very remote communities.

The Advisory Group will:

  • Provide lived-experience insights into regional aged care needs
  • Support WQPHN to identify priorities for older people across Western Queensland
  • Strengthen local engagement and guide service improvement opportunities
  • Ensure community perspectives are reflected in planning, commissioning and evaluation

Membership will include a Chair and Co-Chair, an Executive Sponsor, a Specialist Aged Care Advisor, at least five consumer representatives, and invited members such as local specialists, sector leaders or researchers when required.

Who We Are Looking For:

Consumer participation is central to the Advisory Group. WQPHN is seeking Expressions of Interest from people with diverse lived experiences, including:

  • Older people living in rural, remote or very remote communities
  • Carers or family members with experience navigating the aged care system
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
  • People with experience accessing Home Care, Residential Aged Care Homes (RACHs), Healthy Ageing programs or other support services
  • Community members with a strong interest in improving ageing outcomes locally

An Expression of Interest process will support transparent and inclusive recruitment, alongside direct invitations to suitable community representatives where appropriate.

Supporting the Ageing in the Outback™ Strategy

The Advisory Group will directly support the Ageing in the Outback™ Strategy by:

  • Improving navigation so older people can better understand and access local supports
  • Strengthening access by identifying barriers and opportunities across aged care pathways
  • Promoting equity for communities experiencing isolation, limited services or cultural barriers
  • Supporting community participation, ensuring older people are at the centre of decision-making

Through ongoing advice, feedback and collaboration, the group will help guide implementation across all priority areas of the Strategy.

Get Involved

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of ageing and aged care in Western Queensland. By joining the Ageing in the Outback™ Advisory Group, members will contribute to ensuring services are community-led, culturally appropriate and responsive to local needs.
