Would you like to influence regional policy, funding alignment, and service design, while driving commissioning, integration, and strategic direction for primary mental health services across Western Queensland?

We are now seeking expressions of interest for the newly established Senior Coordinator, Mental Health position.

About the Role

Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN) is seeking a highly skilled and influential mental health professional for the role of Senior Coordinator, Mental Health to drive the integration and enhancement of primary mental health services across our region.

This pivotal fixed term role will develop and implement strategies that improve access, efficiency, and outcomes for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Working closely with GPs, Hospital and Health Services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and other partners, you’ll codesign solutions that address local needs within a stepped care model. You’ll provide clinical leadership to service providers, champion sector capability building through Communities of Practice, and ensure initiatives deliver measurable improvements for priority populations.

While this role requires Credentialed Mental Health Clinician status, it is important to note that the incumbent will not be delivering clinical services. Instead, their expertise will be used to guide and inform the development of safe, sustainable, and effective service models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the Western Queensland PHN's mental health strategy.
  • Drive commissioning, integration, and optimisation of primary mental health services within a stepped care model.
  • Provide clinical leadership to service providers, promoting evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care.
  • Collaborate with GPs, HHSs, ACCHOs, NGOs, and people with lived experience to co-design solutions that meet community needs.
  • Build sector capability through Communities of Practice, professional development, and shared learning initiatives.
  • Analyse data to identify priorities, monitor impact, and guide service planning.
  • Align Commonwealth and State initiatives, ensuring efficient use of funding and resources.

The Right Person

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re a strategic thinker and clinical leader passionate about designing solutions, and improving mental health outcomes for rural and remote Queenslanders. Additionally, we’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Tertiary qualifications and experience in primary mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and/or allied health services, with over 5 years of industry experience.
  • Credentialing as a Mental Health Clinician.
  • In-depth knowledge of the primary health care sector, particularly mental health and alcohol and other drug services, and an understanding of the health needs of regional, remote, and rural communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • Experience with digital health platforms, including clinical data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in managing funding agreements and preparing business communications and reports.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (including SharePoint) and aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage conflicting deadlines, and demonstrate effective problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • A current, unrestricted driver’s licence for work purposes.
