Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (Level 2)

Larter and CheckUP Australia are pleased to facilitate an interactive mental health training package for General Practitioners.

Focussed psychological strategies are specific mental healthcare management strategies, derived from evidence based psychological therapies that have been shown to integrate the best research evidence of clinical effectiveness with general practice clinical expertise.

Facilitated by a GP (Dr Danielle James) and a Clinical Psychologist (May Chi) the workshops are primarily activity based and feature demonstration of techniques, videos, supervised practice of skills, a consumer and carer panel discussion and case-based discussions.

This training has been designed in alignment with RACP guidelines to ensure that GPs meet all the learning outcomes to achieve FPS Level Two accreditation. Content has been reviewed by people with lived mental health experience. This training is suitable for GPs that already have experience in the Mental Health setting.

GPMHSC is currently offering GPs a training subsidy that will assist cover the cost of competing an accredited Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS).

To support this subsidy Larter/CheckUP is offering an FPS education course at a rate of $770 (plus GST).

Eligible GPs will be reimbursed $600 once they complete the requirements for FPS and register as GP Providers of FPS with Services Australia (Medicare). The subsidy is available for GPs who undertake the training and register between 1 August 2021 and 30 June 2022.

Dates: (zoom workshops) 

• Session 1 – Tuesday 19 October 2021 

• Session 2 – Tuesday 26 October 2021 

• Session 3 – Tuesday 2 November 2021 

• Session 4 – Tuesday 9 November 2021 

Time: 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm (AEST) Qld  or 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm (AEDT) Vic & NSW

Completion of the training will allow GPs to claim MBS item numbers #2721, #2723, #2725 and #2727 for the provision of FPS.­­

This course is accredited by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) as Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) pending RACGP and/or ACRRM accreditation for the 2020–22 triennium. This training is being delivered in partnership with CheckUP Australia.
