7 October: “Mental health toolbox” presented by Cath Walker

Mental health conditions can have a significant impact on the individual, their friends, family, community and workplace. Many rural and remote people are trained in physical first aid but are not confident assisting someone with mental health concerns. These conditions are common, may be serious and the person may not realise they have a condition that can be treated and can get help.

This session aims to increase:

  • Awareness about stress related and common mental health conditions such anxiety and depression;
  • Confidence to have a conversation with someone experiencing such problems including suicidal thoughts;
  • Ability to support and access further assistance for someone with mental health conditions;
  • Knowledge about common strategies to reduce the health impact of experiencing stressful environments and events.
